Saanich police are warning women to be vigilant after a student was attacked while jogging at the University of Victoria.

The 18-year-old woman was on the alumni chip trail between 3 and 3:30 p.m. Wednesday when she was passed by a man jogging in the other direction, Staff Sgt. Scott Treble said.

The man tackled the woman from behind, police said. She escaped after kicking him in the groin.

The suspect is described as white, 25 to 35 years old, between five foot 11 and six foot three, with an average build and short, dark brown hair.

He was wearing a grey zip-up hoodie with a black Nike swoosh on the left breast; black shorts; black Nike runners and white ear-bud headphones.

Police also received a report of a man who fit the description acting suspiciously in nearby Henderson Field about 2:30 p.m.
