The Mill Bay Fire Department continues to investigate a Thursday afternoon fire at the shuttered Pioneer Square Mall — the second there in under three months. The call came in about 12:25 p.m.

There was considerable smoke and visible flames at the scene at the corner of the Trans-Canada Highway and Shawnigan Mill Bay Road, but traffic was not affected. “It looks like a fire was started outside the building,” said Fire Chief Ron Beck. “We don’t know yet what actually happened.”

The vacant mall also had a fire Nov. 26, he said.
