Construction of a new 83-unit housing development at 1201 Fort St. calls for the removal of 29 trees, some of which were coming down Tuesday.

The project, by Abstract Developments, on what was the site of the Victoria Truth Centre was approved by Victoria City Council in May, 2018.

There are plans for nine townhomes and two condominium buildings of four and five storeys. Fifty-six per cent of the site will remain open space. Eight mature Garry Oaks will be retained, 14 other mature trees will be spared and 83 new trees planted.

The Victoria Truth Centre has relocated to 2815 Cedar Hill Road, a previous Lutheran Church, and continues its mission of non-denominational spirituality.
