CHILDS, Toby Lee

April 18, 1974 - September 13, 2012

With great sorrow we announce the passing of Toby Lee in a tragic tree-falling accident. Toby had a passion for the great outdoors and surfing. But these loves were surpassed by the love he had for his beautiful daughter, Cassidy, who will love and miss him with all her heart. Toby will be forever missed by his family: grandpa, Ray; father, Larry; his two moms, Janice and Marilyn; his brothers, Jason (Hillary, Emma and Walker) and Vincent (Robbie); sister, Stacey; his aunt and uncle, Sandy and Rick; cousins, Sheri and Brandy; and by Jen Petrie, who will always be the love of his life, and by Jen's parents and sister, Don, Gail and Lesley Petrie. Toby touched so many people's lives and the family honours all of Toby's extended family and friends who love him as dearly as we do.

A celebration of Toby's life will be held at the Sooke Community Hall on Saturday, September 29th, 2012 at 1: 00 pm.

COOMBES, Gareth Aled

May 18th, 1989 - September 15th, 2012

Taken tragically from us in London, ON at the young age of 23 years. Gareth was born in Winnipeg, MB and moved to Victoria, BC at an early age. He was in his final year at the Richard Ivey School of Business and had recently returned from a four month adventure in Africa. He packed in a lot of living during his short life, whether it be travelling the world, climbing volcanoes, sky diving, or swimming with the sharks. Gareth's to-do list was like everyone else's bucket list. Gareth had many good friends. Each relationship was important to him and each "best" friend held a special place in his life. His mother Vanessa predeceased him on December 18, 2005, and her nurturing and love made him the incredible man he became. Those of us who are left to mourn his loss can hopefully take comfort in remembering the awesome Gareth hugs, his big, toothy grin and all the love and support he gave so willingly. Look up into that bright night sky and when you see those twinkling stars, it will be Gareth and Vanessa watching over us, his friends.

Come share memories, tears, laughter and hugs on Friday, September 28th, 2012 at 3: 00p.m. at Glendale Gardens, 505 Quayle Road, Victoria, BC. In Gareth's memory, donations can be made to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Victoria.

It is with saddened hearts, the family of David William Metcalfe announces his passing at the age of 85. David was surrounded by the love of his family and is now reunited with the love of his life, Eleanor who passed away July 23. Dave loved life, his community and especially his family. He was actively involved with his church serving in many positions and always a "handyman." Dave played a big role in the formation of the United Ostomy Assoc, Victoria Chapter and served on national boards. He was a member of Toastmasters for many years and engaged in public speaking at every opportunity. Living in Esquimalt since 1965 he enjoyed his participation on the Library Board and on the Emergency Preparedness Committee. He was always there to help others. Dave worked at Yarrows Shipyard as a foreman and Fire Chief for 40 years. David was born in Edmonton, predeceased by his parents, George Sr. and Mary, his beloved wife of 59 years, Eleanor and his faithful companion, Duke. Dave and Eleanor lovingly raised their family in their Esquimalt home, remaining there for 44 years before moving to the Renaissance Retirement Residence. Dave and Eleanor travelled throughout North America on family trips, to many UOA conferences, and loved their vacations to the UK to meet extended family and explore family history. David loved a good party and with mom continually opened their home for the famous "Metcalfe" pool parties. Hospitality was extended to many by invitation into their home, to share a meal and lots of laughter. Dave always had a smile on his face and a joke on his lips. "What would you do if you couldn't laugh" was his favorite line. Dad with Mom built a beautiful life with their hands, their hearts, their love and their faith. We are blessed to have such loving and supportive parents. Special thanks to the kind and caring staff at Victoria General Hospital, 4South, the Renaissance and the Paramedics that attended to dad.
