A Victoria cyclist struck by a minivan at Bay and Blanshard streets two weeks ago died in hospital overnight Friday.
The name of the man, who was in his 30s and suffered serious head injuries in the collision, has not been released.
“This was always a possible outcome, but not the one anyone hoped for,” B.C. Coroners Service spokeswoman Barb McLintock said Sunday evening.
The service, notified of the death early Saturday, will now join Victoria police in investigating the incident.
The collision occurred around 4:30 p.m. on March 11. The intersection was closed that night until 10.
The cyclist, who had been pulling a bicycle trailer, was admitted to the Victoria General Hospital’s intensive care unit.
Victoria police questioned the female driver of the green minivan at the scene, then released her.
While a helmet was found at the scene, it was unclear whether the cyclist was wearing it, based on early reports.
