Cyclist injured in collision with truck

Nanaimo RCMP are on the lookout for a dark-coloured SUV that failed to remain at the scene after hitting a 47-year-old cyclist on Wednesday night. The Nanaimo man was taken to hospital with serious leg injuries after being hit about 6: 10 p.m.

Nanaimo RCMP are on the lookout for a dark-coloured SUV that failed to remain at the scene after hitting a 47-year-old cyclist on Wednesday night.

The Nanaimo man was taken to hospital with serious leg injuries after being hit about 6: 10 p.m. on Estevan Road near the Terminal Park mall, said Nanaimo RCMP.

The victim was on his bicycle and crossing through a marked crosswalk near Quadra Street and Estevan Road when he was struck by a northbound darkcoloured SUV, police said.

No plate number was obtained for the vehicle.

The force of the impact threw the cyclist to the ground. He struck his head and suffered serious leg injuries, said Const.

B.C. paramedics attended and took the victim to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. He was treated and discharged.
