A Nanaimo woman has been charged in connection with a stabbing near Port Place Mall on Sunday.

Around 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 14, police responded to the mall and found a 27-year-old man with stab wounds to his head. The man was given first aid at the scene and taken to the Nanaimo hospital, where he remains in stable condition.

RCMP have named Kimberly Lewis, 51, in connection with the stabbing, and said she has been taken into police custody until at least Aug. 23. She is charged with one count of aggravated assault.

“Investigators are now tasked with attempting to understand why this happened and if there was a conflict between the two that may have precipitated the incident,” said Const. Gary O’Brien of Nanaimo RCMP.
