There’s a new chief of the Central Saanich Fire Department.

Kenn Mount replaces Chris Vrabel, who retired earlier this year.

“Kenn has a wealth of operational and leadership skills, and will be a tremendous asset to the fire department and community,” said Central Saanich chief administrative officer Christine Culham.

Mount, whose term begins Sept. 1, has been fire chief and director of community safety in Sooke since 2017.

Previously, he was the regional fire chief for the Columbia Shuswap Regional District, where he oversaw the management and administration of 13 fire departments.

Mount started as a volunteer firefighter 16 years ago and became a paid, on-call training officer before stepping into the role of chief.

He has a background in information technology, with a focus on the geographic information systems and mapping used by municipalities.
