Port Alberni RCMP say the bones discovered in the Somass River at the Paper Mill Dam were from an animal.
An RCMP underwater recovery team was deployed after the remains were found by a civilian diver in the area.
An inspection of the bones by a forensic pathologist early Thursday afternoon determined the bones were not human.
