Body found on Sidney shoreline identified as missing woman

Sidney-North Saanich RCMP say a body found on the shoreline south of Sidney on Wednesday afternoon is that of Myrna Peterson, reported missing Monday after she left her care home.

Sidney-North Saanich RCMP say a body found on the shoreline south of Sidney on Wednesday afternoon is that of Myrna Peterson, reported missing Monday after she left her care home.

An extensive search for the woman by police, search-and-rescue volunteers, and the coast guard ended Wednesday with the discovery of Peterson’s body.

Some of Peterson’s belongings were found near a Sidney beach, which led to the coast guard being brought in.

Police and family members expressed gratitude for the assistance of all involved in the search efforts including volunteer search and rescue, the coast guard, and the media.

Foul play is not suspected. The B.C. Coroners Service is investigating.
