Body found near Lochside Trail identified, another found Wednesday

Second body was found near Swan Lake Nature Sanctuary; police say there is no risk to the public

Saanich police say the death of a man found near the Lochside Regional Trail Oct. 6 is not considered suspicious.

Saanich police have identified a body found near the Lochside Regional Trail Oct. 6 as 59-year-old Timothy Mackness, who had not been seen since Sept. 20.

His death is not considered suspicious, police said.

“Our condolences go out to the family and friends of Mr. Mackness,” said Det. Sgt. Damian Kowalewich.

Police issued a missing-person report on Mackness on Oct. 5.

They are also investigating another body found Wednesday near the Swan Lake Nature Sanctuary, in the area of Douglas Street and Haynes Road.

Saanich police, forensic specialists and the B.C. Coroners Service are working to identify the man and determine the cause of death, Kowalewich said.

Detectives believe there is no risk to the public.
