A shortage of drivers is forcing B.C. Transit to cancel several trips across the region today.

Services to the University of Victoria will see the largest number of cancelled trips. Route 15 between Esquimalt and UVic will see 23 cancellations today, while Route 4 from downtown to UVic will see 19 cancelled trips and Route 26 from UVic to Dockyard will see 14 cancelled trips.

B.C. Transit posts its customer advisories on its website.

“B.C. Transit is actively recruiting transit operators in a number of systems across the province and working hard to hire more drivers as we are currently facing a labour shortage like many other customer-facing organizations,” the corporation said in a statement.

The labour shortages are expected to result in temporary service reductions on transit routes across the region. B.C. Transit said it will increase the number of trips as more operators are hired.
