Authorities respond to sinking boat in Roberts Bay

Officials were called after the boat, an older 44-foot fishing vessel moored near Sidney, began taking on water.

A floundering boat in Roberts Bay off Sidney drew responses from a number of agencies Tuesday after being reported about 7:20 a.m.

The boat, an older 44-foot fishing vessel, was moored in the bay and began taking on water overnight Monday. Diesel fuel was seen washing up on the beach so a boom was set up around the boat.

The owner has been contacted and will deal with the boat’s recovery, said Sidney-North Saanich Staff Sgt. Wayne Conley.
