Lifetime Networks is looking for a volunteer to build a friendship with an independent young woman with a developmental disability. Some interests she would like to share with a peer friend include mini-golf, bowling, swimming, socializing, sharing meals out/picnics, hiking/walking and going to community events. The Maritime Museum — Classic Boat Festival: Aug. 30 to Sept. 1: Festival donation volunteer needed to welcome visitors, accept donations and answer visitor questions. Dock volunteers for dock safety, fulfilling ice requests, carrying a VHF radio, ensuring safety of all visitors. Familiarity with VHF radio and/or marine experience preferred. ArtSea Community Arts Council: Salish Sea Lantern Festival, Aug. 24, is held on the waterfront in Sidney. Volunteers are needed to help with set up/take down, site co-ordinator and parade procession assistants, equipment stage crew, face painters and bubble station operators. Leadership Victoria: Our board of directors is a working board; we are passionate about leadership and currently seeking new skilled members in three key roles: strategic communications, board secretary and development and campaign leadership. The members will work with the executive director and board on implementing communications and marketing practices, programs and policies. The Mount Tolmie Community Association: Is seeking a vice-president and two board members. The MTCA helps facilitate, promote, support or undertake activities that will enhance the quality of life for those living and working in the Mount Tolmie area and to foster community engagement. Saanich Recreation — Saanich Commonwealth Place: Welcome Ambassador. Piloting a new program, a Welcome Ambassador will be available in the main lobby to answer questions, give directions, provide tours and share resource information. For more information go to: bttr.im/vbd3k

Anawim House: Hair stylist. In this role, the hair stylist will have the opportunity to support the community by offering free haircuts to guests in need, including those from the recovery population and homeless population, as well as residents who live on site. Men’s Trauma Centre: Moving help for Saturday Aug. 31. Men’s Trauma Centre is seeking volunteers to load and unload a moving truck. There is small furniture such as desks, filing cabinets, and multiple boxes to be moved. No training required, just muscles and a smile. Contact: Shannon shannon@menstrauma.com or 250-381-6367.

Victoria Arts Council: Workshop Leaders. Volunteers who are professional artists working in media across the spectrum share their experience in workshop programs. Volunteers will be given a short introduction on how to conduct a workshop if they have no previous experience. Victoria Cool Aid Society: Board Game Café Co-ordinator — Sandy Merriman House. Typical duties and responsibilities include: planning board-game events, collecting and organizing board game stock and setting up snacks. Skills/abilities required include: love of board games. Royal Jubilee Hospital: Mobile patient library cart volunteer. Volunteers provide patients with an accessible and free library service of books, magazines, or puzzle books. Volunteers are encouraged to have a conversation with patients while they are choosing their reading materials, thereby providing social support for patients.
