Seniors Serving Seniors is recruiting compassionate and flexible people to assist in the Return to Health program. Volunteers are matched with vulnerable seniors being discharged from the hospital to assist with socialization and support to regain their independence. Training will begin in early May. Lifetime Networks is looking for a volunteer who is interested in building a committed friendship with an independent, friendly man with a disability in his early 60s. His interests include: chess, bowling, watching movies, exercising at the gym, playing cards, watching curling, going to live sports games, and visiting affordable restaurants. The Mustard Seed Street Church at 625 Queens Ave. is looking for volunteer support for the kitchen, boutique, Monday morning reception and the Mustard Seed Market. The Food Rescue Distribution Centre, 808B Viewfield Rd., is looking for volunteer support for the industrial kitchen, reception, sorting, food hampers, breakdown and a cleaner. Oaklands Community Association is looking for someone to facilitate our weekly drop-in 55+ cards and games program. Volunteers must have knowledge of various card games and experience working with seniors. If you’d like to help out, contact Erin at programs@oaklandsca.com or 250-370-9101 ext. 2.

B.C. Cancer Agency: Fundraising support. Monday or Tuesday mornings supporting the fundraising efforts of the TLC Café and Pebbles Gift Shop. Tasks include reconciling sales, preparing daily floats, preparing and filing weekly banking reports, light bookkeeping and cheque writing. Special event assistance may be required. Parkwood Place by Revera: Movie host — movie nights for older adults. Host the weekly movie night for residents. Tasks may include: setting up the room, greeting residents, making and serving popcorn and refreshments, playing the movie and cleaning up. In between, you get to sit and enjoy the movie! Oaklands Community Association is looking for a youth drop-in basketball facilitator. Do you enjoy playing basketball and have knowledge of drills and games? If you’d like to gain experience working with youth, contact Erin at programs @oaklandsca.com or 250-370-9101 ext. 2.

Victoria Therapeutic Riding Association: Finance committee member. The committee meets quarterly with the executive director to review the financial reports. Committee members require sufficient financial knowledge to review and discuss financial reports and finance policy and procedures. Silver Threads Service: Arts and crafts assistant — knitting, crocheting and crafts drop-in. Can you knit and crochet? Do you have patience and are willing to work with participants to read out patterns, assist with knitting and crochet planning, problem-solving and gathering supplies. Island Health (VIHA) — South Island Residential Sites: hairdressing assistant — Gorge Road Hospital. This role involves portering residents in wheelchairs from the hairdressing area, providing friendly conversation to those who are waiting, and generally contributing to a pleasant and friendly atmosphere. Victoria Health Co-op: Gmail Genius — support for chair. The Victoria Health Co-op Chair runs several Gmail accounts and needs help, probably several sessions, in tidying and simplifying the sprawling mess. You will train us about Gmail organization. Victoria Cool Aid Society: Make-up and nail volunteer. Provide make up and nail services to senior clients who reside at Hillside Terrace.
