Alzheimer Society of B.C. — First Link Dementia Helpline Volunteer. Join a team of dedicated volunteers offering information and support on Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias to individuals, families, friends, caregivers and health professionals. Computer and phone skills are helpful and so is an interest or background in social services. Excellent training provided. Day and evening shifts are currently available. Victoria Literacy Connection — ESL, children and literacy tutors. VLC supports a diverse range of learners wanting to improve their English, reading, writing or math literacy. We currently have a particular need for volunteers with experience tutoring ESL learners either one-to-one or in a small group as well as child reading support volunteers for our in-school and after-school child literacy programs. Lifetime Networks is looking for a Network Friend (volunteer role) to build a friendship with a man with physical and developmental disabilities who is fun and has a great sense of humour. Specifically, we are hoping for the new friend to have time on a weekend each month to share their time: eating out at a pub, going to live sports games or taking in special events around Victoria.

The B.C. Schizophrenia Society, Victoria Branch is looking to recruit business leaders, entrepreneurs and fundraising skilled individuals to join our board of directors. World Rowing Coastal Championships, Tulista Park, Sidney, Oct. 9-14. A first for North America in hosting this event, requiring more than 200 volunteers to manage a variety of active outdoor positions (e.g. boat assistance, admin, site setup, start and finish support). Pacific Women’s Day is the annual conference for women in the defence community. It takes place on Nov. 24, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m., at Royal Roads University and consists of workshops, a keynote speaker, and engaging activities.
