Island illustrators celebrate Canada with vintage-style posters

The Island Illustrators Society welcomes the new year with a visual celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday.

The Island Illustrators Society welcomes the new year with a visual celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday.

The latest in an annual tradition of new year projects, this series marks the country’s sesquicentennial with vintage-style travel posters of some of sights that make Canada famous. It’s called Big Canadian Stuff.

An exhibition of the posters opens at Coast Collective Gallery on Jan. 4 and will remain on display until Jan. 29. The opening reception is from 7 to 9 p.m. on Jan. 6 at the gallery, 103 - 318 Wale Rd., Colwood.

Later, it hits the road, travelling to branches of the Greater Victoria Public Library and to Saanich municipal hall.

Today, we present some of the works in the show.
