How to make your house beautiful

Professionals help dress up your digs for a party or real estate open house

Whether you're expecting a Times Colonist team for a photo shoot or your new in-laws for dinner, it helps to set the stage to make a good impression.

The same is true when you're trying to sell your home.

This means removing personal items and declut-tering, but it could also include adding more art, furniture, flowers and other accessories.

People can learn about staging this weekend at an open house showcasing the talents of Victoria experts, from 1 to 4 p.m. today and Sunday, in Unit #1, 934 Craigflower Rd.

The event is presented by The HOUSSE, a new business created by six-year home-staging expert Josée Lalonde. She opened a warehouse here in mid-September.

"It's a one-stop resource centre for the staging community professionals and it's the first business of its kind in Victoria," she said.

"It allows stagers to source, reserve and rent staging supplies, including art, furniture and accessories, towels, linens [and] greenery. ... Being a member is a way to support each other and help the community grow."

The centre is for members of the industry - "We just had three orders today" - but the open house is for everyone. It features an entire home, staged by a team of professionals. People who attend can enter to win a free room-staging.

There is also a private event for professionals at the house Sunday, from 5 to 7 p.m.
