The Lafayette String Quartet has announced its historic run will come to an end in 2023.

The group, the only all-female string quartet operating with its original members, will wrap its 35-year run in August 2023 at the conclusion of its forthcoming season. Further details were not announced.

The quartet has played upwards of 1,000 performances together, and members Ann Elliott-Goldschmid (violin), Sharon Stanis (violin), Joanna Hood (viola) and Pamela Highbaugh Aloni (cello) taught for decades at UVic’s School of Music.

“We are extremely proud of their accomplishments,” said acting UVic vice-provost, Susan Lewis.

“In addition to their internationally acclaimed performance history, the quartet has transformed the teaching of chamber music at UVic, training and mentoring a generation of over 400 string musicians and developing the master’s of music in string quartet performance—the only program of its kind in Canada.”

Upcoming information on their farewell, when it is available, will be posted on lafayettestringquartet.ca.
