The Victoria Symphony will launch its upcoming virtual season with a broadcast performance of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons on Oct. 1.

Concertmaster Terence Tam will be at the helm for the concert, which will premiere on the symphony’s website, where it will remain for 30 days.

Music director Christian Kluxen remains at home in Denmark; Tam and associate conductor Giuseppe Pietraroia will handle conducting duties in the interim. A full schedule of events in the upcoming virtual season will be announced in the next several weeks, according to the symphony.

“Even though most people agree that the live concert experience will never be replaced by virtual concerts, digital technology has become incredibly flexible,” Victoria Symphony CEO Matthew White said.

“By providing you with intimate interviews, backstage access, enhanced program notes, and other innovative online tools, we are confident you will see things from a new and different perspective that may end up brining you closer to the orchestra.”

Audiences can expect at least two online performances per month through the 2020/21 symphony season. Performances will be recorded at the Farquhar Auditorium and Christ Church Cathedral. Performances are being presented free or charge, but tax-deductible donations are encouraged.
