Victoria singer-songwriter Adrian Chalifour might not have won in CTV’s reality-TV series The Launch on Wednesday, but his performance drew high praise from judges Nile Rodgers of Chic and pop star Bebe Rexha.

Chalifour, 34, was one of five contestants in the sixth and final episode of the popular music competition, the winner of which will have his or her work promoted heavily across radio and streaming sites in Canada.

Ottawa’s Michelle Treacy emerged victorious, but Chalifour was praised by Rexha and Rodgers, who produced David Bowie’s Let’s Dance and Madonna’s Like a Virgin.

“He’s so strong at what he does,” Rodgers said in response to Chalifour’s version of Ben E. King’s Stand By Me. “John [Mayer] is my friend, so don’t take me wrong. But he actually has a better voice than John Mayer.”

Meant To Be hitmaker Rexha told Chalifour: “When I get married, I want you to sing that song for my first dance.”
