Victoria author Penny Chamberlain has a timely new release with Songs from a Small Town (in a Minor Key), a novel that chronicles a strange disease outbreak and the mass hysteria that follows when teenage girls in a small Canadian farming community suddenly fall sick. It’s the fourth book — and first for adults, after three successful children’s novels — from the retired physiotherapist and health care worker, who is celebrating with a launch party at Hermann’s Jazz Club on Sunday.

The Ashley Wey Trio will perform at the all-ages event, which begins at 1:30 p.m. and includes a short reading by the author. Tickets are $20 (which includes a copy of the book) from hermannsjazz.com. To donate directly, visit ArtsOnView.ca/donate or contribute during the livestream Sunday via the Hermann’s Jazz Club website.
