Vic Theatre says it’s Canada’s first cinema to reopen

When the Vic Theatre reopens Friday, it will become the first movie house in Canada to get back to business during the COVID-19 era, according to organizers.

A trio of film festival favourites will return the Douglas Street theatre to operation for the first time since its closure in mid-March. Lost in Paris will reopen the cinema at 5 p.m., followed by Trip to Greece at 7:45 p.m. The World Before Your Feet joins both films on the schedule Saturday.

Screenings of all three films will continue through next week, when another slates of movies will be announced, according to organizers of the Victoria Film Festival, who also operate the Vic Theatre. Social distancing is in effect for each film, with a reduced capacity of 50 seats for the foreseeable future. Food and beverages will be available for purchase, with extensive cleaning occurring between showings in order to meet provincial health guidelines.

Advance tickets are available online only. In-person tickets can be purchased at the box office 30 minutes prior to each film.
