Tamara McCarthy named artistic director of Blue Bridge Repertory Theatre

Vancouver performer appeared in the company’s most recent production, Around the World in 80 Days

Blue Bridge Repertory Theatre has named Tamara McCarthy its new artistic director.

The Vancouver performer replaces founder Brian Richmond, who served as artistic director from 2008 until his amicable departure this summer.

McCarthy is well known to Blue Bridge audiences — she appeared in the company’s most recent production, Around the World in 80 Days — and has more than two decades of experience, including with the Greater Victoria Shakespeare Festival, Vancouver Island University, the Nanaimo Fringe Festival, Opera Nanaimo, and the Chemainus Theatre Festival.

“I bring to Blue Bridge my core values of collaboration, listening, and uplifting the voices of marginalized artists,” McCarthy said. “I look forward to collaborating with artists, designers, audience, and the Victoria community. Actively focused on the work of decolonizing my life and artistic practices, I step into the artistic director role guided by these values.”
