The Royal B.C. Museum’s IMAX theatre is reopening on Sept. 3, just in time for the Labour Day long weekend.

The theatre has been closed to the public since November 2020 to comply with COVID-19 public health orders.

“We know that local residents, IMAX Victoria pass holders and visitors to Victoria have all been looking forward to seeing the world again through the magic of IMAX Victoria,” said Erika Stenson, acting vice president of museum operations. “As Victoria and B.C. reopen to travel and tourism, we’re thrilled to reopen this popular B.C.-based experience.”

The highlight upon reopening is Humpback Whales, narrated by Ewan McGregor and set in the waters of Alaska, Hawaii and Tonga.

Other crowd favourites include Sea Lions: Life by a Whisker, Turtle Odyssey, and Asteroid Hunters.

Visitors looking to take a deeper dive into the lives of whales on the Pacific Coast can combine their IMAX experience with the museum’s feature exhibition, Orcas: Our Shared Future.
