Pacific Opera Victoria will return to the Royal Theatre for its 2021 season, which includes two live operas and two premieres of operas filmed and produced by the company.

The season will include in-person productions of Carmen and Don Giovanni — which were previously scheduled but cancelled due to the pandemic — live at the Royal Theatre.

The Garden of Alice and For a Look Or a Touch, which were produced and filmed by Pacific Opera Victoria during the lockdown, will also be shown at the Broughton Street theatre.

“We are all feeling the surge and renewal of excitement as we prepare for a return to the theatre” Pacific Opera artistic director Timothy Vernon said in a statement. “In opera, live performance is our ultimate goal and nothing can supplant that — technology is terrific but no substitute. Live is real.”

Live performances of Carmen run Feb. 23 through March 1, while Don Giovanni will be presented April 20-26. Filmed versions of The Garden of Alice will be shown Feb. 24 and 26, with For A Look Or A Touch screening April 21 and 23.

All pre-recorded and in-person events during the upcoming season will feature evening and matinee performances. For more information, visit pacificopera.ca or call 250-385-0222.
