A joint venture between Ottawa’s National Arts Centre and Facebook Canada is giving artists across the country an opportunity to have their performances livestreamed to audiences — and make some much-needed money in the process.
The short-term relief fund #CanadaPerforms, which pays Canadian authors, artists and ensembles for their online performances, is taking applications through April 20. #CanadaPerforms performances are currently being scheduled until May 31. Selected artists will receive a financial grant and have their sets shared on the NAC’s Facebook page. The offer is open to ensembles of no more than five people, according to the centre’s website.
A pair of Victoria-reared artists are among the acts scheduled to appear in the coming weeks. Solo performer Charles Ross will stage his One Man Pride and Prejudice show on April 18, while country-rocker Leeroy Stagger will perform on April 20.
