Hornby Island Blues Society to be honoured in Toronto

The board of directors of the Toronto Blues Society will honour the Hornby Island Blues Society with the Blues Booster of the Year award at the Maple Blues Awards in Toronto on Feb. 4.

The board of directors of the Toronto Blues Society will honour the Hornby Island Blues Society with the Blues Booster of the Year award at the Maple Blues Awards in Toronto on Feb. 4.

The award, which recognizes outstanding contribution to the Canadian blues music industry, comes during a banner year for the Vancouver Island area. Joining the Gulf Island society at the 22nd annual event in Toronto are nominees from Victoria (Deb Rhymer, David Vest), Sidney (Michael Kaeshammer) and Salt Spring Island (Keith Picot).

The volunteer-driven Hornby Island Blues Society celebrates its 20th year of operation May 4-11 with its annual Blues Week and Music Camp. Guest instructors this year include Gary Kendall, Suzie Vinnick, Jack de Keyzer, Cecile Doo-Kingué, Rick Fines, Michael Jerome Browne and Paul Pigat.
