Several filmmakers with ties to Vancouver Island have earned nominations for the 2020 Leo Awards, which honour the best in B.C. movies and television.

Bryan Skinner of Victoria earned two tops nods for his locally shot Open For Submission, which is up for best motion picture. He also earned a best direction nod for his work on the project. The filmmaking team of Mount Doug grad Brent Hodge, now based in Vancouver, and Aly Kelly also received multiple nominations for their film Who Let the Dogs Out. The documentary about the makers of the kitschy hit song of the same name drew five nominations.

The awards will not be handed out in traditional fashion this year, due to COVID-19, organizers said. No date has been announced for when the winners will be made public. Follow leoawards.com for more details.
