Island author Michael Christie honoured for crime writing

Island writer Michael Christie’s acclaimed book Greenwood has won best novel at the 2020 Arthur Ellis Awards, which honours the best in Canadian crime writing.

Island writer Michael Christie’s acclaimed book Greenwood has won best novel at the 2020 Arthur Ellis Awards, which honours the best in Canadian crime writing.

Christie, who splits his time between Victoria and Galiano Island, earned $1,000 with the win. The national bestseller has enjoyed a critically acclaimed run since it was released in October. Greenwood was longlisted for the 2019 Scotiabank Giller Prize and was named best Canadian fiction title of last year by CBC Books.

Liz Rachel Walker of Victoria was also honoured by the Arthur Ellis Awards. The Dieppe Letters, a mystery set in London, England, earned Walker $500 for best unpublished manuscript.
