THEATRE

What: Lessons
Where: Langham Court Theatre, 805 Langham Court
When: Saturday, Nov. 10, and Monday, Nov. 12, at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday, Nov. 11, at 2 p.m.
Tickets: $23 through langhamtheatre.ca or by calling 250-384-2142
Why: Bema Productions is re-mounting Lessons, the critically acclaimed Wendy Graf play, in collaboration with Langham Court Theatre after Bema staged the Canadian première in April. Christine Upright (as Ruth, a former rabbi who lost her 13-year-old daughter in a terrorist attack) and Alf Small (as Ben, a shoemaker eager to finally have his bar mitzvah) star in this hot-button production, which looks at the loss of faith in troubled times. Proceeds from the production, set on Washington state’s Bainbridge Island, benefit the War Amps’ Child Amputee Program.

MUSIC

What: Lindsay Beaver
Where: Hermann’s Jazz Club, 753 View St.
When: Saturday, Nov. 10, 8 p.m.
Tickets: $22 at jazzvictoria.ca or by phone at 250-388-4423; $25 at the door
Why: Halifax-bred Lindsay Beaver has been busting stages to bits with her revved-up blues band the 24th Street Wailers, but the Austin, Texas-based singer-drummer is venturing out on her own with her solo debut CD, Tough As Love, which hit stores Oct. 12 on the Alligator Records imprint. She’ll perform Saturday at Hermann’s Jazz Club, where she has raised the roof in previous appearances with the 24th Street Wailers. Don’t miss her return.

What: DJ Pauly D
Where: Upstairs Cabaret, 15 Bastion Square
When: Tuesday, Nov. 13, (tickets available) and Wednesday, Nov. 14, (sold out)
Tickets: $45 ($95 includes ticket and meet and greet with Pauly D) through eventbrite.ca
Why: Reality star Pauly D from MTV’s Jersey Shore has been a club DJ for years, which has extended his 15 minutes of fame. And before you can say “Huh?” witness both the ticket price ($45) and ticket status (a second show was added due to overwhelming demand) of his upcoming DJ appearances at the Upstairs Cabaret. The people-watching will be worth the price of admission.
