What: Tiki Tuesday with Audio Osmosis
Where: Copper Owl, 1900 Douglas St.
When: Tuesday, Aug. 13, 8 p.m.
Admission: Free
Why: Tiki Tuesday has grown into one of the city’s most popular theme nights and gives those with some serious cabana wear a chance to show off their grass skirts or Hawaiian shirts. The music by Audio Osmosis certainly adds to the warm glow of the always-excellent Copper Owl, which is turned into a pop-up tiki bar for the night by hosts Part Time Tiki. Arrive early and visit the recently reopened Paul’s Diner (located underneath the Copper Owl), which can surely add to a night of dance-friendly Polynesian festivities.

THEATRE

Why: Students in Kaleidoscope’s Performing Arts Studio Summer Musical Theatre Intensive program are on stage this week for three performances of The Addams Family Young@Part, the authorized edition of the Broadway musical for elementary and middle schools and youth theatres. With a book by Academy Award-winner Marshall Brickman and Outer Critics Circle Award-winner Rick Elice — the duo behind the hit Broadway musical, Jersey Boys — this musical about this freakish family has its heart in the right place. With contributions from director Pat Rundell, choreographer Hailey Fowler and musical director Anna Shill, the cast of young artists between the ages of 10 and 16 will bring the exploits of Gomez, Morticia, Uncle Fester, Grandma, Wednesday and Lurch to life.

MUSIC

What: The R&B Kingpins
Where: Hermann’s Jazz Club, 753 View St.
When: Friday, Aug. 9, 8 p.m. (doors at 6)
Tickets: $20 from hermannsjazz.com or by phone 778-433-3679; $25 at the door
Why: Vancouver blues belters the R&B Kingpins were favourites of the B.C. blues circuit during the better part of the 1990s, but with members active in several areas, their two-album run came to an early end. Victoria singer Hank (Uncle Wiggly) Lionhart has reformed the group with several original members now living on Vancouver Island, including guitarist Steve Cross and bassist Jack Lavin of Powder Blues fame. The lineup is rounded out by a crew of veteran players — keyboardist Steve Rantam, drummer Ross Hall and saxophonists Paul Wainwright and Dave Rowse — which should make for a powerhouse night of rhythm and blues.
