Why: A cross-Canada tour celebrating the 20th anniversary of Thrush Hermit’s final album together (1999’s Clayton Park) comes to a close in Victoria today, which bodes well for longtime fans of these Halifax heroes. The band was known during its heyday for its ramshackle performances, which always had an element of mischief underscoring the ’70s-inspired sounds. A trip back in time with original members Rob Benvie, Cliff Gibb, Ian McGettigan and Joel Plaskett has the potential to be one of the better rock shows this year.

Why: Juno Award-winners Tri-Continental are known for blurring the lines between blues, folk and world music in fresh and fascinating ways. The supergroup has been at it since 1999, and is showing no signs of wear: In addition to new music (the recently released Dust Dance), the trio of Bill Bourne, Lester Quitzau and Madagascar Slim has a string of Vancouver Island dates ahead, including shows in Victoria (on Friday at First Church of Christ, Scientist), Parksville (Saturday at GroundZero Acoustic Lounge) and Duncan (Sunday at Duncan Showroom) on their agenda.

Why: John Fogerty, who once held the concert-attendance record at Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre, returns to the Blanshard Street arena Saturday for his biannual concert — this time, inspired by the 50th anniversary of Woodstock. Fogerty and his former band, Creedence Clearwater Revival, performed at the 1969 festival, and his current solo tour celebrates the legendary material he wrote in 1969 when he was just 24: three Top 10 albums and four Top 5 singles — all written and produced by Fogerty. Do not miss him.
