Why: Madrona Gallery’s first exhibition of 2021 is a good one, with a collection of works that explore the idea of home “through object, location, colour, and form,” according to the View Street gallery. The group exhibition, curated by Brittany Scarfe, features new pieces in addition to ones from the gallery’s collection, by a stable of artists that includes Corrinne Wolcoski, Ningiukulu Teevee, Kudluajuk Ashoona Meghan Hildebrand, Rick Bond, Megan Dietrich and Brad Pasutti. What: Debussy & Ravel: À la Française

Why: The second half of the Victoria Symphony’s virtual season gets underway tonight with Debussy & Ravel: À la Française, a program of 19th century French classics. The pre-recorded concert, conducted by Giuseppe Pietraroia, will spotlight Claude Debussy’s Afternoon of a Faun and Pavane for a Dead Princess, along with Maurice Ravel’s popular Mother Goose. Stay tuned: Debussy & Ravel, which arrives on victoriasymphony.ca at 7:30 p.m., kicks off a run of new symphony performances that are scheduled to arrive every two weeks until the end of June.

Why: Miroslav Volf — a theology professor at Yale University and author of numerous books, including Exclusion and Embrace: A Theological Exploration of Identity, Otherness, and Reconciliation — is tonight’s guest in the University of Victoria’s livestream speaker series Values for a New World. Produced by the university’s Centre for Studies in Religion and Society, the event features a 90-minute presentation by Volf and the opportunity to ask questions during an open forum after Volf’s talk. The event is free, but to join you need to register in advance at uvic.ca/csrs/events.
