THEATRE

What: Seven Keys to Baldpate
Where: Langham Court Theatre, 805 Langham Court
When: Dec. 5-7, 8 p.m.; Dec. 8, 2 p.m.
Tickets: $32 (adults), $27 (seniors) and $17 (students) from langhamtheatre.ca or 250-384-2142

Why: Seven Keys to Baldpate has aged remarkably well, thanks to its deft mix of suspense and comedy by songwriter/playwright George M. Cohan (who wrote Over There, the wartime hit, among hundreds of others). Victoria’s Lawyers on Stage Theatre Society is the latest company to stage the time-tested Broadway hit, and will do so with 15 actors from the legal profession handling the material. The Langham Court Theatre production directed by Kate Rubin will donate the proceeds to Need2 and Victoria Foundry, two local charities specializing in mental health.

MUSIC

What: Christmas at the Roxy with Stephanie Greaves
Where: Roxy Theatre, 2657 Quadra St.
When: Dec. 5-7, 8 p.m.; Dec. 8, 2 p.m.
Tickets: $35 from bluebridgetheatre.ca or the Roxy Theatre box office (250-382-3370); $40 at the door

Why: Stephanie Greaves has a voice fit for all seasons, but the local favourite will put some extra oomph into her four upcoming performances at the Roxy Theatre. In addition to her voice talents, Greaves is an amiable host, and will fill the former movie theatre with songs that have become standards at this time of year. She will be joined by pianists Darcy Phillips, Thomas Kinzel and Karel Roessingh, bassist Ryan Tandy and drummer Damian Graham. Note: Fans can take in any one of the concerts for free with a season subscription to Blue Bridge Theatre. Call 250-382-3370 for details.

THEATRE

What: James and Jamesy Presents O Christmas Tea
Where: Royal Theatre
When: Sunday, Dec. 8, 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
Tickets: $29.50-$49.50 from the Royal Theatre box office (250-386-6121) or rmts.bc.ca

Why: Vancouver performers Alastair Knowles and Aaron Malkin might as well be British, given their spot-on parody of the country and its culture in James & Jamesy’s O Christmas Tea. Their wacky British comedy is a holiday staple, with both slapstick and songs being key parts of the production. It’s incredibly popular, especially in Victoria, where the production sells out each year. Those who miss out will have a chance to see O Christmas Tea in Nanaimo at the Port Theatre on Dec. 12.
