Where: gohballet.com
When: Sunday March 7, 3:30 p.m.
Tickets: $28.92 from eventbrite.ca

Why: Vancouver Island dancers with dreams of becoming professionals have an exclusive opportunity to learn from one of the top ballerinas in Canada this weekend. Vancouver’s Chan Hon Goh will give a masterclass Sunday for residents of Victoria and Nanaimo, which affords those on the Island the chance to learn — albeit virtually — from the former principal dancer of the National Ballet of Canada. Goh will also take questions during a Q&A session at the end of the class. Junior (ages 11-14) and senior (15-18) level instruction is available for students with at least three years of ballet training. Questions can be emailed to reception@gohballet.com.

MUSIC

When: Tuesday March 9, 7:30 p.m.
Tickets: By donation

Why: Victoria Baroque will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a concert, Grand Concerti Grossi, streamed live Tuesday night from the Church of St. John the Divine. The celebration will include a tribute to local harpsichordist Michael Jarvis, a Victoria Baroque favourite who died suddenly on Christmas Day at the age of 62. Grand Concerti Grossi will showcase 11 musicians’ exceptional quality, with a program featuring music by Baroque masters Vivaldi, Telemann and Evaristo Dall’Abaco. The concert is free to view, but donations will be accepted.

Celia Rabinovitch will open the month-long series on Sunday with an illustrated lecture called Understanding the Surrealist Imagination. Colin Brownen will host Wolfgang Paalen’s Northwest Passage on March 14, while Elliott King will tackle Salvador Dali’s Paranoiac Vision on March 21. Rabinovitch returns for the finale, Women Surrealists Through Their Own Eyes, on March 28.
