Craigdarroch Castle was built by coal baron Robert Dunsmuir during Queen Victoria's reign as his retirement home, but he died before it was completed in 1890.

Craigdarroch Castle reopened to visitors Monday after shutting its doors March 16 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The popular attraction is offering guided tours daily except Thursdays through the summer. Public-health procedures will be in place, including reduced hours of operation (10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) and mandatory masks (some will be available, but visitors are asked to bring their own). The castle’s visitor centre and gift shop have also reopened, but the Jingle Pot Café will remain closed for the remainder of the year.

Guided tour groups of up to eight people will have 75 minutes in the building. Tours for immune-compromised and high-risk individuals are also being offered. Tickets must be purchased in advance to enter the castle, at thecastle.ca or by phone at 250-592-5323.
