British comedian Russell Brand will make his Victoria debut next year when his worldwide Recovery Live tour stops at the University of Victoria.

Brand, 44, will appear at the Farquhar Auditorium on April 5, the first of five dates in Canada on the trek. The 90-minute performance — which Brand described as “a funny show where we will find purpose, meaning and hope” — is not technically a stand-up comedy performance, and will be centered around wellness and spirituality. Brand has been sober for 17 years and made the best-seller list in 2017 with his book, Recovery: Freedom From Our Addictions.

Tickets go on sale Thursday at 10 a.m. through the UVic Ticket Centre (250-721-8480 or tickets.uvic.ca), and are priced between $60.50 and $130.50. VIP tickets are also available, and include a reception, post-show workshop, and three-day online meditation course.
