The fifth annual Plein Air Competition, hosted by the Winston Churchill Foundation Vancouver Island, will give awards to the top three artists of the day. The Matheson Band will play live music and food will be available.

Acres of Art runs from noon to 5 p.m. at the Coast Collective Arts Centre, at 3221 Heatherbell Rd., overlooking Esquimalt Lagoon.

Cathedral puts on summer treats

One of the treats of summer is spending an hour on Saturday afternoons listening to musicians play in the Summer Recital Series at Christ Church Cathedral.

This Saturday’s program features Paul Beauchesne, tuba, and Kelly Charlton, piano, as they play Horn Concerto No. 1 by Richard Strauss. Beauchesne plays with the Victoria Symphony and is head of brass and woodwinds at the Victoria Conservatory.

Admission is by donation.

The recitals run 4 to 5 p.m. every Saturday until Aug. 23 at the cathedral, 930 Burdett Ave.
