University of Victoria graduate Alisha Sevigny has won the inaugural Margaret Wise Brown Board Book Award for excellence in children’s literature.

The Toronto-based author won for her book, Give Me a Snickle!, which was chosen by a jury from hundreds of entries. The award — which is named in honour of Goodnight Moon author Margaret Wise Brown — acknowledges outstanding board books aimed at babies and toddlers.

Sevigny holds a degree in professional writing and sociology from the University of Victoria, from where she graduated with distinction. The Kitimat-raised writer also graduated with distinction from the Victoria Motion Picture Film School.

Her previous books include the Secrets of the Sands series and young adult novels Summer Constellations and Kissing Frogs.
