Acclaimed incumbent Mayor David Screech hopes the fact he ran unopposed is a sign of the community's satisfaction.

“I’m definitely honoured to be the mayor for the next four years,” said Screech.

He said the municipality is facing issues of housing shortages and traffic, like most other municipalities in the Capital Regional District. And Screech said View Royal is not immune to the development pressures now fueling building booms in Langford and Victoria.

A few years ago, View Royal was listed as the fastest-growing municipality in B.C. When Screech first sat on council in 2002, the population was just under 6,000, and now it’s just under 12,000.

“We have to manage development in a way that it benefits the community, while maintaining the qualities that make View Royal special,” he said.

Meanwhile, Margaret (Gery) Lemon will be the newcomer on View Royal’s four-person council.

She will join incumbents Damaina Kowalewich, John Rogers and Ron Mattson.
