WINNIPEG — One of Manitoba's largest rehabilitation and long-term care centres for seniors has declared a scabies outbreak.
The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority says there are eight confirmed cases among residents at Deer Lodge Centre in Winnipeg.
It adds the skin condition has not affected any staff members.
Infection prevention and control measures have been in place since May 15 and include limiting visitors, frequent hand-washing and disinfecting medical equipment following its use.
Residents’ families have been notified and provided with information.
The health authority says the risk to visitors, staff and residents can be dealt with by following proper precautions, and there is no risk to the general public.
