Here’s how to renew your car insurance without going to an office

As much as technology has made it easier to seek out information online, when it comes to navigating the complicated language of insurance policies, there’s nothing like talking to a real person to get the answers.

Westland Insurance is one of the companies that embraced technology to better serve their customers while recognizing the value of human interaction—even when it’s not face-to-face.

“It’s important to us to be able to explain insurance options in detail, whether it’s over the phone, online, or in person,” says Tim Mackie, Westland Insurance’s executive VP of operations.

While the company’s 99 offices in B.C. have fully implemented new coronavirus protocols to ensure everyone is safe during an in-office visit, it has also significantly enhanced its online capabilities.

Clients can easily fill out an ICBC renewal request online. They will get a phone call from one of Westland’s insurance advisors within two hours and receive electronic insurance documents while they’re on the call. This provides clients the opportunity to go through documents with the advisor’s guidance. Clients can talk through the various options and have all their questions answered immediately.

After the renewal is submitted online, clients receive documents and decals in the mail, usually within a week.

For those who realize that their insurance will run out the next day, Westland Insurance provides same-day coverage online, as well as in-office.

As well as being able to get personalized online assistance for car insurance renewal, Westland’s new online service also allows clients to get new licence plates, as well as file for transfer of ownership.

“We want our clients to be able to take advantage of the full range of our services from the comfort of their own home,” Mackie says.
