This hidden gem eatery has Burnaby’s best water view

Eating a meal with a view just makes the food taste that much better.

I have my favourite locations. The Boathouse at Rocky Point Park, the Salmon House on the Hill in West Van, The Study at SFU, Sandbar on Granville Island, and, sadly, Horizons on Burnaby Mountain which is closing at the end of February.

A great view can depend on what you want to look at. Some great views are just high up and feature a lot of office buildings all lit up at night.

Other great views can be of the natural variety. The Hart House at Deer Lake and Seasons in the Park in Vancouver both offer excellent views of gardens.

For me, I love water.

Eating by the water isn’t just inspiring, it’s relaxing – the problem is that there aren’t many places in Burnaby where you can actually see water.

I found a sneaky-good water view on the Burnaby/Port Moody border in a little place called Willy’s Galley. It’s located in the Reed Point Maring at 850 Barnet Highway.

The place is small and cozy, with a menu that’s mainly fresh pub fare.

But you are right on the water. You look out the window or from its spacious patio and you get a full view of Barnet Inlet, as well as the different boats in the marina.

The air is fresh, the birds are pleasantly noisy and the atmosphere just feels peaceful as you listen to the water lap up against the dock.

Burrard Inlet is many different things. It’s a recreational body of water with plenty of sailboats. It’s also a working river with giant tankers rolling by.

If you are looking for a quick breakfast or lunch, especially when the weather is nice, Willy’s Galley is a tranquil place to visit.

DISCLAIMER: I have not be compensated in any way by the restaurant in question for writing about it. They don’t even know I am featuring them.
