The Coquitlam Express scored four times in the first period and rolled to a 6-1 victory over the visiting Powll River Kings, Sunday at the Poirier Sports and Leisure Complex.

The win was a bounce back after the Langley Rivermen halted Coquitlam’s three-game winning streak Friday, with a 2-0 win at the George Preston Arena.

Against the Kings, Drew Cooper scored a pair of goals in the first period, along with singles from Cooper Connell and Joshua Wildauer before Powell River got on the scoreboard with just over three minutes left until the intermission.

Connor Gregga and Bradley Ong scored goals for the Express in the second period and neither team was able to ignite the light in the third period.

Jack Watson made 21 saves to register his first win in Coquitlam’s net, while his teammates fired 30 shots at Powell River goalies Braedy Euerby and Matteo Paler-Chow.

Friday in Langley, Rivermen goalie Braedon Fleming made 27 saves to help his team avenge a 4-1 loss to the Express earlier in the week.

Dan Leduc scored both of Langley’s goals, in the second period.

The Express remain atop the BC Hockey League’s Mainland division standings with 22 points in 14 games. That’s one better than second-place Chilliwack Chiefs, who’ve played three more games.

Coquitlam will play Langley for the fifth time this early season on Wednesday, 7:15 p.m., at Poirier. The team then faces the Surrey Eagles, Friday at the South Surrey Arena, before hosting the Rivermen yet again next Sunday at 3 p.m.
