Letter: Animals need their space at Coquitlam’s Lafarge Lake

A Coquitlam letter writer says Lafarge Lake in Town Centre Park is ‘an oasis of sanity’ and the city should keep the island at its north end should remain inaccessible

The Editor,

Re. “Does Lafarge Lake need more paved paths and a bridge to a remote island” (The Tri-City News, March 12), “Letter: Don’t mess with nature at Coquitlam’s Lafarge Lake” (Letters, The Tri-City News, March 19) and “Letter: Coquitlam’s Lafarge Lake must be preserved and protected” (Letters, March 22).

I agree with letter writer Greg Tjosvold. The animals and birds we view at Lafarge Lake, an oasis of sanity, need their place and space or we’ll no longer be seeing them. They prefer to observe us from afar and people don’t need access to every foot of shoreline.

Keep the island at the north end of Lafarge Lake so it has a protective moat that keeps the birds feeling welcomed and relaxed, and so their presence can be enjoyed by us all.
