West Vancouver squash star Lucia Bicknell won silver, and was the top Canadian finisher, in the women’s U19 division at the 2019 Canadian Junior Open held Dec. 6-10 at the Club at White Oaks in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont.

The Rockridge Secondary Grade 12 student and Evergreen Squash Club member was seeded second in the tournament and lived up to that ranking, winning her first three matches without dropping a set to make it to the final. In the championship match, however, Bicknell was bested 3-0 by top-seeded Lucie Stefanoni of the United States.

The Canadian Junior Open is Canada’s most prestigious junior squash event, this year featuring more than 320 players from across Canada and around the world.

Up next for Bicknell will be the national championships scheduled for April in Victoria. Earlier this year she won gold in singles at the Canada Winter Games.
