Bowen Island Municipality lifted the stage four water restrictions in Bluewater and King Edward Bay that’ve been in effect since May.

The relief comes after a major leak in the Bluewater infrastructure was located and fixed on July 19. In a news release Friday afternoon, BIM said that the Bluewater and King Edward Bay reservoirs had returned to an “acceptable state.”

Like the rest of the island, Bluewater and King Edward Bay are now under stage one water restrictions and BIM is asking residents to still practice conservation measures.

However, this doesn’t mean the issue is done. BIM is holding a special council meeting Monday evening where BIM’s interim director of engineering, Glen Shkurhan, will give an update on the state of the linked water systems. BIM’s chief administrative officer, Kathy Lalonde, will summarize the history of the water systems and how they came to be linked. Members of both neighbourhoods’ water system local advisory committees have also submitted letters and reports to council.
