There’s softwood and hard justice on the streets of North Vancouver.

Following the departure of Const. Matt McCoy this week, North Vancouver RCMP augmented their traffic enforcement unit with his wooden doppelganger.

“The fake McCoy worked his first shift on Delbrook Avenue, where police and neighbours noticed an immediate reduction in speeding infractions,” stated RCMP media relations officer Sgt. Doug Trousdell in a release. The dopp-cop traffic dummy will be set up in areas with speeding problems around North Van, said Trousdell.

“If drivers don’t heed the warning of the wooden police officer, his flesh-and-blood partners will be in the area to issue a ticket,” Trousdell stated.
