The People’s Party of Canada has announced that Angelina Ireland will be its candidate in Delta in this fall’s federal election.
Ireland is a long-time local resident and is involved in many community organizations, including the Ladner Rotary Club, Delta Hospice Society and Sacred Heart Parish, a news release announcing her candidacy states.
The release also notes Ireland holds a master’s of arts degree in political science from Carleton University and has been an accountant for the past 20 years. For 15 years she has been an entrepreneur providing client accounting services to small businesses.
“The time has come to respect the taxpayer, stand up for families, defend our borders, create well-paying jobs and celebrate our country. Together we will build a Canada where taxes are low, government is limited, opportunity is unlimited, freedom is honoured, and people are put before special interest groups,” she said.
The news release adds the People’s Party of Canada represents the opinions and perspectives of thousands of Canadians across the country who believe traditional political parties have ignored citizens in favour of political posturing and pandering.
The party notes it will provide many opportunities to meet Ireland and members of the riding association to discuss policies.
Ireland had been a member of the Delta Conservatives and had sought the nomination to be its candidate, but a few weeks ago withdrew and left the party. The Conservatives have yet to name a candidate, although Tanya Corbet announced she’s seeking the nomination. The riding association notes the nomination period has opened and several others have applied. A candidate will be chosen in six weeks.
Incumbent Delta MP Carla Qualtrough, a key member of Justin Trudeau’s cabinet, is seeking re-election for the Liberals.
The Green Party of Canada named Craig DeCraene as its Delta candidate, while the NDP has yet to name a candidate.
The federal election will be held Oct. 21.
